Choose the mode before planning the party
| Mode | Party plan | Progress and proximity |
|---|---|---|
| World exploration | Two players in the documented co-op setup; the first two Aniimo slots from each roster matter. | Use the least-progressed player as host. Stay together for interactions; shared loot is not the same as shared quest completion. |
| Matched events | Four event slots are not evidence of four-player free roam. | Read that event’s lobby and reward rules separately from exploration. |
| Duo Sanctums | Two players coordinate the puzzle; three duo Sanctums are listed below. | Check each player’s completion and rewards before leaving. |
For a quick session: choose the host, put the intended co-op pair in slots one and two, pick one shared objective, and compare both players’ quest or completion screens before moving on. Five of the 64 platform achievements need a second player, so a session is also the only route to Treasured Trade, A Buddy for My Buddy, Hearts in Tune, Friends in Focus and Safe and Sound. The achievements and trophy roadmap places all five against the rest of the list.
Build the party before entering the world
The normal exploration roster carries four Aniimo. In two-player co-op, each player contributes the first two positions of their prepared roster. That makes slot order a multiplayer setting: a perfect solo fourth slot contributes nothing if it never enters the shared lineup.
- 1Choose the host by progression
Use the player with the fewest unlocked quests, waypoints and region objectives. The more advanced player loses less by joining down.
- 2Place the co-op pair first
Put the two creatures you intend to use in roster slots one and two before joining. Cover one damage plan and one enabling job between them.
- 3Check region and server compatibility
Confirm both accounts can see and invite one another in the same service region before routing to a distant objective.
- 4Set a capture rule
Decide whether both players want the target, who weakens it and when everyone stops attacking. A shared boss can disappear faster than a late Twine call.
- 5Mark one route
Use the interactive map to pick a compact loop of bosses, Sanctums and catches. Free-roam co-op is strongest when travel serves several goals.

Companion Mode is played in the team leader’s world, and both players request entry before it starts. You can invite a friend into Companion Mode without standing face to face with them. While you are Companions, a rare resource that any player gathers is shared with every party member. The profile card holds the exit controls: the leader uses Remove Companion to drop a follower, and a follower uses End Companion Mode to leave.
Host and guest checklist
Avoid the common “we did it, but it did not count” failure: check both sides before leaving the area.
- Quest objective
- Host check
- Objective text advanced and the next marker appeared.
- Guest check
- Assume it still needs completion in your world unless the journal says otherwise.
- Waypoint or portal
- Host check
- Fast-travel point activated.
- Guest check
- Open your own map later and confirm; visiting the host point does not guarantee ownership.
- Lumin Amber or one-time pickup
- Host check
- World object is consumed for the host.
- Guest check
- Check inventory or progression immediately instead of relying on the animation.
- Chest
- Host check
- Chest is open and reward appeared.
- Guest check
- Remain nearby and verify the reward toast or inventory change.
- Boss catch
- Host check
- Catch result is in the host roster.
- Guest check
- Complete your own throw and verify the creature independently.
Help at another Pathfinder’s Home
Till the soil at another Pathfinder’s Home to earn a share of their harvest. Home visits also let you pet an egg in its Hatchinator to accelerate incubation; the Homeland guide and eggs guide cover those Home systems.
Holo-Battle Interlink with AI teammates
Holo-Battle Interlink supports AI teammates that fill the open slots in the team. Its routes, star grades and leaderboard are in the Holo-Battle Interlink guide. The Holo-Battle Simulator is a different mode with its own guide.
The three Sanctums that require two players
Most Sanctums are solo puzzles. Three entrances require two challengers, and all three offer automatic team fill from inside the door. Bring a partner when you want predictable handoffs, or queue for one and call the roles at the first relay. Their combined 14 chest slots are a meaningful reason to prepare multiplayer even if the rest of the campaign is played alone.
| Sanctum | Region | Chests | Session note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lightning Gale | Berylline Vale | 4 | Use the four-landmark walkthrough for mechanism-local pad, circuit, wire and cube handoffs. |
| Blazing Wings | Sea of Flowers | 5 | Use the fixed-role five-chest walkthrough for every held pad and side route. |
| Courageous Wit | Zephyrus Landbridge | 5 | Use the five-chest walkthrough for target toggles, timed hazards and one bounded recovery example. |
The complete Sanctum guide lists all 17 entrances, every chest total and the reusable puzzle logic for solo and duo rooms. The Lightning Gale walkthrough, Blazing Wings walkthrough and Courageous Wit walkthrough name each role handoff at the relevant relay.

Trading, gifts and friendship
Trading begins from the friend relationship rather than a global anonymous market. The exchange list covers Common and Umbral Aniimo at the Lumin, Gamma and Nova stages; Sparkling, Alpha and Illusory copies are not on it. Higher Affinity widens which forms qualify and raises the Acquired Potential cap on each stat, from 8 at Affinity Level 2 to 10 at Level 5. Each exchange costs 1,000 Credits at every Affinity Level, and each player gets 5 exchanges a day. The trading guide covers the full Affinity ladder, the 30 day re-exchange lock and the gift economy.
| Action | Immediate value | Long-term value |
|---|---|---|
| Trade creatures | Move a wanted species, stage or form between friends. | Higher Affinity Levels widen which forms the two of you can offer. |
| Send gifts | Share eligible items and eggs through the friend system. | Build relationship progress instead of waiting until the rare trade appears. |
| Care for an egg | A friend interaction can reduce hatch time. | Useful when both players maintain active incubators. |
| Play together | Combines routes, catches and bosses. | Keeps the relationship useful even when neither player has a trade ready. |
A productive 45-minute co-op session
- Align goals: Five minutes. Choose the least-progressed host, order the first two roster slots and pin one region.
- Catch loop: Ten minutes. Visit two or three nearby habitats and let both players finish every wanted catch.
- Alpha attempt: Ten minutes. Use compatible elements, coordinate BREAK and stop damage for both capture attempts.
- Sanctum or chest cluster: Fifteen minutes. Complete one contained objective and verify every guest reward before exiting.
- Friendship housekeeping: Five minutes. Trade, send a gift or help an egg, then record which host-only tasks the guest must repeat.
Frequently asked
Does Aniimo have co-op?
Yes. Aniimo supports two-player open-world co-op, shared combat and catches, plus activity-specific matchmaking that can support larger groups.
Does co-op story progress count for both players?
No. Story and several world-state objectives advance for the host only. Use the least-progressed player as host, and check every guest reward in your own journal and inventory before leaving the area.
Can solo players finish co-op Sanctums?
The three two-player Sanctums expose matchmaking, so you can queue for a partner rather than maintaining a permanent co-op group.
Can Alpha and Sparkling Aniimo be traded?
The exchange list covers Common and Umbral Aniimo only, so Alpha, Sparkling and Illusory copies are not on it. Within that list, Affinity decides the rest: Lumin Stage Basic Form Aniimo at Level 2, any stage at Level 3, Umbral and Region or Weather Forms at Level 4, and an Acquired Potential cap that rises from 8 to 9 at Level 4 and 10 at Level 5.
