The six things the word rare can mean
Sort the vocabulary by what layer it answers for and the arguments stop. An Aniimo wears exactly one form, can carry a mutation on top of it, can be in the Umbral state, holds one Innate Potential rating, was met as one kind of encounter, and may or may not be carrying a social status. Six layers, read from the outside in.
Layer 1 and 2: what the Aniimo is
Basic Form
The defaultThe identity a species wears when nothing else applies. Everything below replaces it, and an Aniimo is only ever in one form at a time.
Region forms
11 namedHighland, Forest, Grassland, Plateau, Mountain Woods, Mountain, Beach, Bay, Mudflat, Towerwood and Sea of Flowers. A habitat identity, usually with its own element line. Covered in the regional forms guide.
Weather forms
4 namedRainstorm, Thunderstorm, Snowfield and Cloudmist. Tied to what the sky is doing where you are standing, and often a retype. Covered in the weather guide.
Nighttime Form
Time gateA separate identity that only appears in the night window, not a recolour of the day form.
Prismana Form
25 speciesThe rainbow identity. Base stats and the skill kit are identical to the basic form; what moves is the element line, on 18 of the 25 catalogued Prismana and on 10 of the 14 you can pick for free. Full roster in the Prismana guide.
Umbrabow
Lost IslesIts own named identity with its own eggs and its own collection line, dug out of nests that exist only on the Lost Isles. Not a synonym for Umbral.
Layer 3 and 4: what got rolled on top
Sparkling mutation
12 stylesAn appearance mutation that sits beside whatever form the Aniimo is wearing. Ten numbered styles plus two hidden ones. No Potential effect on its own.
Dazzling Sparkling
Hidden style 11The bright-toned hidden Sparkling style. A style of Sparkling, not a tier above it.
Shadow Sparkling
Hidden style 12The dark-toned hidden Sparkling style, and the one an Operation: Egg Heist hatch can roll.
Alpha mutation
OversizedA larger, stronger individual. Alpha Aniimo are born with enhanced skills, and they never roll the bottom Potential tier.
Mini mutation
UndersizedThe opposite roll, granted by an egg or by the item that gives an Aniimo the Mini body type. Cosmetic.
Umbral
Perfect, alwaysA Vein-energy state, not a form and not a mutation. Innate Potential is always Perfect, and the appearance is lost on evolution. Full detail in the Umbral guide.
Innate Potential
4 tiersCommon, Good, Elite and Perfect, fixed at birth and rated at an outpost Research Console. This is the layer that actually decides how strong the copy starts.
Layer 5 and 6: how you met it, and who else was involved
Alpha encounter
Beat, then catchThe roaming field boss. You cannot throw at it while it is standing, and after you defeat it you get exactly one catch attempt. Mapped in the Alpha and Omega guide.
Omega
Never catchableThe named, unique bosses of a family or region: Omega Tuckin, Omega Sherro, Omega Infergon. The catch table refuses them outright.
Legendary Aniimo
Calm, not catchThe Guardians, born inside a Vein Rift. You defeat the frenzied creature and then spend Aniipods during a calming phase. Irisalis is the launch one.
Blessed
Amber carrierA wild Aniimo carrying Lumin Amber. Catching it drops the amber. Nothing about the creature itself is rarer.
Illusory
Friend pairingDaily friend interactions can make you Illusory Friends, after which pairing your Aniimo with theirs produces an Illusory Aniimo and your next exchange with them is guaranteed to yield one.
What each one actually changes
The single most expensive misconception in launch week is that a rarer-looking Aniimo hits harder. It does not. Nothing on this page raises a species base stat line, and every one of the 26 catalogued Prismana forms carries the same skill kit as its basic form. Two things change combat: the element line a form carries, and the Innate Potential the individual rolled.

| Variant | How you get it | How rare |
|---|---|---|
| Region form | Spawns in its own habitat, so it is a question of going there rather than of luck. | Common where it lives |
| Weather form | Spawns while that weather is running. A Branch at Prismana Radiance lets you set the weather yourself. | Common in the right sky |
| Nighttime Form | Spawns in the night window only. Rest or wait for the clock. | Common at night |
| Prismana Form | Prismana Flow, Nurture, the free Prismana Promise pick of 1 from 14, a Prismana Orb on a species you already caught, or a Prismana egg. | Rare, with a pity counter |
| Umbrabow | Nests and eggs on the Lost Isles, plus the Egg Heist shop. | Rare, mode-locked |
| Sparkling mutation | A wild roll, a Sparkling Cube, a Sparkling Sigil on a copy you own, or a guaranteed egg. | Very rare in the wild |
| Alpha mutation | Defeat a field Alpha and take the single catch attempt, or hatch a regional Alpha egg. | Fixed spawns, one attempt each |
| Mini mutation | A Mini egg, or the item that grants the Mini body type. | Uncommon |
| Umbral | A wild roll in the open world, or one of the three guaranteed Umbral eggs from Operation: Egg Heist. | Rare, and far more likely than Sparkling |
Exact rates, the Branch and badge bonuses that move them, and the full catch formula are on the Sparkling and Umbral hunting guide. Potential tiers and what a Perfect roll is worth are on the Potential guide.
One species wearing six identities
Turbo carries the clearest spread on the roster: a basic form, two weather forms, a region form, a Prismana Form and an Umbrabow form. Every one of them is the same species with the same base stats, which is exactly the point.
Basic FormWind
Plateau FormWind / Ice · region
Cloudmist FormWind · weather
Rainstorm FormWind / Lightning · weather
Prismana FormWind / Dark
Umbrabow FormDark / Wind · Lost IslesRead the shift as elements rather than as rarity. Basic Turbo is Wind. The Plateau Form adds Ice, the Rainstorm Form adds Lightning, and the Prismana Form adds Dark. Those are three different matchup profiles on the type chart and the only reason to prefer one for a team. Seven Prismana forms shift nothing at all: Scorchhowl, Inferlupa, Iris, Irisal, Hexxin, Panpanta and Pawney keep their base element line. Four of those seven sit in the free Prismana Promise pool, which is why that page counts 10 retypes out of its 14 picks while this one counts 18 out of the 25 catalogued forms.

What players call it, and what the game calls it
Creators and forums built their own vocabulary before the English client settled. If you searched for one of the words on the left, the row tells you which page you actually want.

Which page answers your question
To check one species rather than one system, open it in the Aniilog and switch between its forms. Elements, skills and evolution requirements are listed per form, so the differences this page describes in words are visible as numbers.
Frequently asked
Do Prismana or Sparkling Aniimo hit harder?
No. Every Prismana Form carries the same species base stats and the same skill kit as its basic form, and Sparkling is an appearance mutation with no stat effect. Prismana does retype 18 of the 25 catalogued species, including 10 of the 14 in the free Prismana Promise pool, which changes matchups rather than raw numbers.
Can an Aniimo be Umbral, Sparkling and Alpha at once?
Umbral and Sparkling stack, and both can sit on an Alpha. The client renders the Umbral aura and the Sparkling effect on the same Alpha entries, and it ships a defeat objective for an Umbral Omega Stellarys. The one pair that does not combine is Alpha and Prismana Form.
What is Dazzling in Aniimo?
Dazzling Sparkling is one of the twelve Sparkling styles, the bright-toned hidden one. It is a style of the Sparkling mutation, not a rarity above it, and its dark-toned twin is Shadow Sparkling.
Is Legendary a rarity tier for Aniimo?
It is an encounter class, not a roll. Legendary Aniimo are the Guardians that open a Vein Rift, and you bond with one by calming it with a Legendary Aniipod rather than catching it. Legendary is separately an item quality tier for held items and transmog sets.
Is any Aniimo form locked behind paid content?
The Advanced Companion Handbook grants a Prismana Fulmintis with Perfect Potential for the current season. The same rules screen states the Prismana egg returns in Season S3 through Homeland gameplay, so the form is season-gated rather than permanently paid.
