What Twining actually is
Twining is a sync. You do not climb onto an Aniimo; you become it for as long as the twine holds, and you inherit what it can do. That single design choice is why the game ships no vehicle of any kind. Traversal is a creature you own rather than an item you unlock, with the available movement skills covered in the traversal guide.
It also sits inside Aniimo’s formal progression vocabulary, next to Egg Hatching, Resonance Training and Evolution. Twining is a first-class pillar of raising a creature, not a movement gimmick bolted on the side.
- 1Pick your creature
Any Aniimo in your active party can be twined with, and which one you pick decides both your traversal and your combat kit for that fight or that stretch of the map.
- 2Sync
TWINE puts the Pathfinder in the driver’s seat: you take on the creature’s Mobility trait and, in a fight, drive its moves directly instead of issuing orders.
- 3Move or fight as that Aniimo
A burrower tunnels under obstacles, a flier takes to the air, a sprinter just outruns the ground. The trait you inherit is the trait the roster slot carries.
- 4Untwine and swap
Break the sync and twine with a different party member when the terrain, or the fight, calls for a different kit.

Mobility traits decide how you move
Every Aniimo carries a Mobility trait, and that trait governs the traversal you get when you twine with it. The practical consequence is that your movement kit is a roster decision: swapping which creature you twine with changes how the world opens up in front of you, so it is worth settling in the Aniimo team planner before you set out.
- What it gives you
- TraitHustleEnters a Hustle state, raising movement speed by burning stamina (a straight ground-speed sprint).
- What it gives you
- TraitTunnelBurrows underground, immune to ranged attacks while tunnelling, taking routes a runner cannot.
- What it gives you
- TraitTake OffEnters a Flying state to clear ground obstacles and dodge ground attacks, at the cost of extra damage taken while airborne.
- What it gives you
- TraitBloomingFlowers bloom in its path as it moves, a traversal trait with a cosmetic trail.
- What it gives you
- TraitPuff UpPuffs up to jump higher and dash once while airborne.
- Aniimo

- TraitCloudwalkFloats freely among the clouds, open-air traversal with no fall risk.

- TraitDig InDigs into the ground on the spot, a short-range burrow rather than a travelling tunnel.

The table above covers the traits that change how the ground feels under you. The roster carries 28 distinct mobility abilities in total once Climb, Fly, Swim and their tiers are counted, and the traversal reference table lists every one with its carriers and the terrain it opens.
Twine is also a combat mode
Fights run in one of two modes. Command leaves your Aniimo to fight on its own while you direct it. Twine puts you in the driver’s seat: you sync with the creature and drive its moves directly, which turns a fight from a management problem into an action one.

- Combat modeTwineYou sync with the Aniimo and control its moves directly.
How high an Aniimo can be Twined
Twining is capped, and it is capped by the same number that caps training and catching. The Pathfinder skill that sets it is called Aniimo Level, and its description is blunt: it increases the level cap of twining, training and catching Aniimo. The opening cap is 15, and each title promotion raises it until Trailblazer I lifts it to 60.
| Title | Cap it grants | What the game says |
|---|---|---|
| Level 15 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 15 | |
| Level 25 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 25 | |
| Level 35 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 35 | |
| Level 40 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 40 | |
| Level 45 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 45 | |
| Level 50 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 50 | |
| Level 55 | Can train and twine with Aniimo up to level 55 | |
| Level 60 | Aniimo that can be cultivated and Twine cannot exceed level 60 |
Energy, EP and the skills that change the sync
Entering Twine Mode is one button, and pressing it again untwines. While you are synced you are the Aniimo: you move as it moves and drive its skills directly. Two resources run underneath that. Skills spend the creature’s EP, shown as the pip bar under the reticle, and basic attacks feed it back. Twining itself also drains Energy on its own while the sync is held, which is why a long traversal stretch ends by dropping you back into your own body.

Four Pathfinder skills change how the sync behaves, and each one is gated on a title rather than bought freely. Enhanced Twining is the one worth planning around: it is a flat damage multiplier on everything you do while twined, and it climbs five times.
| Skill | Opens at | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Student I | Increases Aniimo damage by 7% after twining | |
| Student II | The same bonus rises to 10% | |
| Student III | Reduces the time needed to twine with an Aniimo to a mere instant | |
| Wayfarer I | The bonus rises to 15% | |
| Wayfarer III | The bonus rises to 20% | |
| The ceiling | Trailblazer I | Increases Aniimo damage by 25% after twining |
| Student II | While twined, use Call Friends near similar species to make them follow and imitate |
What you can and cannot Twine with
The sync is a two-way link rather than a vehicle. The game describes it as the twiner and the twinee connecting and sharing the same senses, seeing the world through the Aniimo’s perspective, and that framing explains most of the restrictions below.
An Aniimo in your party cannot be selected for a duel
Some Aniimo cannot be twined at all.
The duel screen says so directly and asks you to adjust your party first. Check the roster before you queue rather than at the loading screen.
You are twined and an Alpha refuses the pod
You cannot catch an Alpha while Twined.
Untwine, then throw. The catching guide covers the rest of the Alpha attempt, including what the chest costs.
A Sanctum blocks your own party
A special energy field seals your Aniimo, and statues in the room hold Aniimo of their own.
Approach a statue to awaken the Aniimo inside, twine with that one, and use its power to solve the room. The Sanctum directory says which rooms do this.
A wild Aniimo turns hostile as you approach
High-risk Aniimo react to what you look like.
Twine with an Aniimo of the same family first. The game recommends it for approach, and the same trick lets you understand what that family is saying.
You cannot interact with something while synced
An object interaction needs your own hands.
Cancel the Twine and interact as yourself. Eggs are the same: you can neither move nor Twine with an egg while it is in that state.
Mobility has a second route that is easy to miss. An Aniimo equipped in the exploration slot lends its Climb, Fly or Swim without a full sync, and when you leave one of those states the Twine does not end instantly: a short exit window appears with a button to drop out early. That is why a swim can flow into a climb without a trip back through the party menu.
Twining as an objective
The verb has escaped combat and traversal entirely. In the Diamond Egg Heist showpiece, the win condition is written in terms of it: teams race to twine with the diamond egg, and the moment a player does, the round flips from a scramble into a defended escort. Twining is the mechanical hook the mode’s whole shape hangs off.
That is worth knowing before you queue. In modes built around carrying something, being the one who twines makes you the objective, and the Egg Heist talent tree has perks written specifically for the moment you are holding an egg.

Twining in duels, and the answer to twine spam
The loudest complaint about competitive Aniimo is that opponents shift in and out of the sync every few seconds and very little fighting happens. The rules the mode actually runs on explain both the behaviour and the counterplay, and they are narrower than the complaint assumes.
- Only Slot 1 can be Twined. In Team Challenge Mode a Pathfinder can twine and fight with the Slot 1 Aniimo alone. The Aniimo in slots 2, 3 and 4 provide Core Skill support and nothing else, so a player flickering in and out is cycling one creature, not rotating a roster.
- The sync has a wind-up until Student III. Quick Twine is what turns it into an instant, and it is a title unlock. An opponent twining freely has already promoted; the same promotion is available to you.
- Some Aniimo cannot be Twined. The duel screen says so and asks you to adjust your party first, so an untwineable pick is a party-building mistake rather than a matchup loss.
- Untwining is not free either. Twining drains Energy while it is held and skills spend EP, so a player who keeps re-entering the sync is spending the same resources you are.
Two other modes fix the rules rather than leaving them to you. Holo-Battle Interlink always fights in Twine Mode, with one Aniimo as your main and three as support, so there is no Command fallback to retreat into; the Holo-Battle simulator covers its stage rules. In the restricted area of Egg Heist, every Pathfinder Level is set to 60 by default, which removes the level advantage and leaves the Twine itself as the thing being tested.
If you are building for duels, the promotion order matters more than any single Aniimo: Quick Twine at Student III, then Enhanced Twining climbing to 25% at Trailblazer I. The Elite Training guide tracks the courses each of those assessments needs, and the PvP guide covers the formats themselves.
Frequently asked
Does Aniimo have mounts?
No. Aniimo has no mounts, vehicles or gliders. Twining is the entire traversal system. Syncing with an Aniimo gives you that creature’s Mobility trait instead of a separate rideable item.
What decides how fast or how far I can travel?
The Mobility trait of whichever Aniimo you twine with. A Hustle creature like Emberpup sprints on the ground, while a Tunnel creature like Budclaw burrows past obstacles a runner cannot cross.
What is the difference between Command and Twine in a fight?
Command leaves your Aniimo fighting on its own AI while you issue orders; Twine syncs you with the creature so you drive its moves directly. Only the twined Aniimo is under direct control at any moment.
What does twining mean in Egg Heist?
In the Diamond Egg Heist mode, twining with the diamond egg is the win condition itself. The player who twines with it becomes the carrier the other team has to hunt down, and the mode’s talent tree has perks built around holding that egg.
Does Twining have a cooldown in Aniimo PvP?
No cooldown, but two real limits. Team Challenge Mode lets you twine and fight with the Slot 1 Aniimo only, while slots 2 to 4 give Core Skill support, and the sync has a wind-up until the Student III promotion grants Quick Twine. Holding a Twine also drains Energy on its own.
